A portion of a residential building collapsed in the bustling Burrabazar area of Central Kolkata, triggering panic among local residents. The incident occurred at building number 20 on Maharshi Debendra Road, located within Ward 22 of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation. The structure, situated in a highly congested commercial cum residential zone, suffered partial damage as a chunk of it suddenly crumbled.
Fortunately, no injuries or casualties have been reported following the structural collapse. Local administrative and disaster response teams were alerted immediately after the incident to ensure the safety of the remaining structure and its inhabitants.
Upon receiving information about the collapse, councillor and BJP leader Meena Devi Purohit rushed to the spot to assess the situation. She interacted with the residents, oversaw the initial safety measures, and coordinated with municipal officials to ensure immediate assistance. Local authorities are currently investigating the precise cause behind the structural failure.
